African Celebration - Afrobeats, Drumming, Tribe, Natural Construction, Earth Spirit

1. - 4. May 2025

Join us for a 4-day immersive celebration in the heart of our beautiful Valley in the Alpujarra.✨ Feel the rhythm of African drums, savour traditional dishes, and connect deeply through dance, storytelling, and hands-on activities. This is not just an event. It’s a celebration of community, culture, and connection.

Ubuntu reminds us that a person is a person through their relationships with others. It calls on us to nurture humanity, recognizing that when we harm another, we also harm ourselves. It is up to us to uplift, support, and affirm one another, not with jealousy or competition but with trust and care. With this in heart, we warmly invite you to our Easter event, where we will come together to celebrate and cultivate this spirit within our community.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐛𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐮 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭 𝐆𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠?

𝐍𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 & 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠
We prepare wholesome, traditional meals together, from fermented millet porridge to ugali with greens and chicken stew. Meals are sometimes served on banana leaves and shared in a circle, where stories and laughter flow. Food is more than nourishment here, it’s a celebration of our roots and our collective spirit.

𝐃𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐇𝐚𝐢𝐫 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 & 𝐑𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐬
For the women, and anyone who feels called, there will be nurturing moments of braiding, oiling, and caring for each other’s hair. More than beauty, this is a ritual of bonding, trust, and emotional support, where laughter, stories, and tenderness flow.
You’ll also experience the energizing power of Mapouka dance, a celebration of feminine energy and movement. This joyful, waist-moving dance helps release stress, connect to your body, and embrace the vitality of sisterhood.

𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 & 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧
The space will come alive with music, storytelling, and drumming, inviting you to immerse yourself in the rich cultural traditions of Africa. You’ll also create simple, meaningful crafts, like woven bracelets or natural hair oils, nurturing community, creativity, and connection to the land and our ancestors. Afrobeats through our sound system will keep us in the groove, inviting ecstatic dancing and joyful movement.

𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠
We’ll explore clay with our senses, this healthy, moldable, and grounding material, by creating small sculptures and learning about ancient building traditions: the fast-construction methods of East Africa, the hand-molding artistry of West Africa, and the rammed-earth styles of Andalusia, shaped by North African influence. As we visit our artistic natural structures, we’ll see how these materials come together to form inviting, soulful spaces.

𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬
We’ll stomp clay, clean reeds, and care for the land around us—in rhythmic acts of togetherness. The Western distinction between work and leisure fades away when, as a tribe, everything becomes one. In the spirit of Ubuntu, we give back to mother earth through simple, nature-based tasks. This mutual exchange allows us to offer a content-rich, 4-day experience at a beautifully low cost.

𝐒𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 & 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧
At day’s end, we gather in the serene Moon Temple to share gratitude and reflection. By candlelight, we hold a circle of deep listening, where every voice is valued. This sacred time honors the spirit of Ubuntu -“I am because we are” - and the unity that blossoms when we come together with presence and love.
